granny linda's bday (3/24)
san antonio, aggie, aka granny linda & pappy have been visiting us for her extended b-day weekend, so they've gotten a glimpse of how things are over here and how much tomas has grown since they last saw him when he was born! once we can make a trip down to san antonio to see them we'll have our fist family car trip down - fun times ahead...
3/23/2011 - 1 calendar month & 4 weeks old
wow-wee - we've made it to both a calendar month and 4 weeks today, so it was like a double birthday! for the special day mama and baby went out for a walk, had bath time and went to grammie's house for a short visit.
cool guy or nerd bird
the second one is after a diaper change, feeding, and activity time with his animal cards - he just wanted a scene change so we went to another room
i'm sooo cute...
everyone is always saying what a good baby little mr. t is because he is always asleep when guests come over, and since they usually only stay a few hours at a time he can keep the gig up, so here are some photos taken last monday showing what really goes on during the day here at casa carrollton - he even has the animals attention all the time. it seems he is quite antsy and fussy (he has been labeld a "spirited" baby by one source), hum which parent would that be like (hint: it's not his mama).

half nakey time
getting ready for my second sunday morning breakfast time with mama - "why does she make me wait to eat just so she can take a photo?"
thanks to unthsc facilities management
what a most splendid group of folks veronica used to work with, that is what made leaving so difficult...
yesterday, barbara and patricia made a visit and brought lunch, some cute clothes, fun toys, and this beautiful shelf that the facilities crew made. jason had the idea of making it, jack made it, jose painted it, rob burned 'tomas' in it, and quite a few of the staff signed the back. it is a good thing we have not finished putting all of the wall stuff up cause now we have this piece too and have the perfect spot above the changing table. this really means a lot to us - thanks so much everyone!

week 2 welll visit
the check-up was a good one! tomas is back to birth weight (it has been a little difficult with baby, mama, and breastfeeding so this is a big accomplishment) and has grown 1-1/4" (is now 22-1/4"). he did have to get pricked one more time for blood tests - papa was trying to console him by mocking him but don't think tomas is a pushover - he got papa back by both pooing and peeing all over the exam table and his sleep sack of which had to be cleaned up and changed by dad while mama was outside the room scheduling his 2 month exam (he'll be getting quite a bit of shots next time).
gramps the handyman
grampa came by with din-din and his tool belt to help us with a ceiling light/fan switch problem we've been having and he even got tomas to stay asleep the whole time

early morning
papa was up early working one morning and snapped this shot of both baby and mama finally getting some sleep, even if she had to bring him into their bed for a nap.
grammie carmen's b-day (3/3)
grammie carmen's b-day celebration this year was low-key however much more special, tomas was even wearing his "big boy" jumper she bought for him.
not much the party animal (much like his papa) baby is now in his pj's, yawning and ready for nighty-night.

1st doctor appointment
it's a boy
welcome tomas escontrias whitener to the world! born wednesday 2/23/2011 at 4:03pm, weighing in at 9 lbs 2 oz and 21" long with a brawny chest of 14" (all the nurses were impressed).
what is in a name...we decided on tomas because
1-a name in english and spanish
2-saint thomas the apostle also known as doubting thomas (much like papa kevin's doubting of almost anything you tell him until he researches for himself); saint thomsas disbelieved of jesus' resurrection who came around and proclaimed jesus as "my lord, my god"
3-saint thomas the apostle is also the patron saint of architects, designers, contractors, etc and since our careers/jobs is what brought kevonica together
that way his name helps him to reflect on life and how he should be living it.
baby kj's arrival journey
finally got all checked-in, hooked-up and are ready to get this induction going.
off the chart contractions.
cheers to the newest member of the escontrias-whitener familia!
tuesday 2/22/2011 dr. appointment
on our way to our weekly scheduled appointment thinking we'd be back home to finish up all those last minute 'projects' prior to little kj's arrival (including packing the hospital bag) even though our due date was monday 2/21. since there had been no progression these last three weeks and i did not feel any different we knew for sure we'd be sent home for at least another week...
after evaluation we were instructed to head on over to labor and delivery due to baby's low heart rate, low activity level and size which left papa and mama in complete shock - at least we did not have time to freak out.
